Canine Health and Longevity Survey

A grinning Golden Retriever guide dog.

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is excited to announce the launch of our Canine Health and Longevity Survey! This survey marks the inception of an ongoing initiative to monitor the health of GDB dogs throughout their lifetimes. By consistently gathering data, our Canine Research and Development team can effectively track and address health-related concerns that may arise later in a GBD dog’s life.

The survey launched in June 2024, and was emailed to everyone who has a GDB dog between the ages of 3 and 18 years old (whether they are an active guide, retired breeder, or any other beloved companion) to obtain an overall assessment and baseline of the current health of our population. Moving forward, the health survey will focus on regular check-ins with our more senior dog population, and after the dog turns 11 years old, to monitor any health related and end-of-life information as they age.

If you have received and completed a Canine Health and Longeveity Survey for a GDB dog in your home, thank you! Your participation in completing this survey is invaluable, and we appreciate your support in advancing the canine health of all GDB dogs. Together, we can help the GDB dog and client teams of tomorrow!
